Largely tipped as 'title favourites' for the Southern Premier Central, Harborough Town have certainly showed the tag has some meaning being linked with the club.

The unbeaten side from Leicestershire currently sit 2nd place with 13 points out of a possible 15, and even progressed into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup during the week. Alex Morris is a hugely influential player to the club who has contributed to an array of success over the last 12 months for the Bees. The centre half last month celebrated his 100th club appearance.

The 31 year old has featured in all five of Harborough's league games for the current season, has been a feature in all three clean sheets, and conceded just two goals. Add that to his 80% win ratio in the current league season as well.

I spoke with Morris to get his thoughts on his milestone appearance, his goal in their recent FA Cup replay, the reasons behind committing to the club for the new season, and his thoughts on their huge league game against Halesowen Town this weekend.

"The FA cup is always a great opportunity to test ourselves against new opposition, it was a great win against leek and hopefully we can take the momentum into Worksop next weekend. After last year, it would be amazing to go on another cup run but we will need some luck along the way and anything can happen on the day in cup matches.

"We have great squad depth so I am hopeful we can give it our best in the cup competitions whilst also maintaining league form and picking up points. Most of the squad from last season is still together so we all have that drive to do well in the FA cup again, fingers crossed!

"It was a really easy decision to stay, the club has been fantastic to me since I arrived and it’s local to where I live. The chairmen, gaffer, management team, staff and all the lads are top notch and we have a real togetherness which helps when we are in the trenches. The club is on the up and it’s great to be a part of the journey. This is my third season at the club so I’m buzzing to hit 100 appearances. I’m not getting any younger but hopefully I can aim for another 100 and be a part of the clubs success!

"Yeah, we’ve had a top start to the season and fine ourselves in and amongst it but it’s very early days so we need to ensure we stay focussed and keep picking up points. We’ve got some really tough games coming up, so the main focus is getting points on the board and hopefully we stay at the business end.

"The club has aspirations of progressing and as a team we want to do our very best of achieving promotion. We don’t look into the ‘favourites’ tag on us but we will do our very best each week to ensure we can try and reach the end goal. It’s a long season with lots of top teams, but I am confident that we can do well!

"Halesowen is a top club with fantastic support so it’s always great to go toe to toe with them, but we will go into the game with the aim of picking up points and not losing. At this stage of the season, nothing is a must win but hopefully we can continue our momentum and get some points on the board.

"Our fans are amazing and they are really growing in numbers and voice. All the lads will be giving it everything on Saturday so please come down in numbers and cheer on the bees, we really appropriate the support! 🐝"
