Defeats on Day three for Dan Evans and Katie Boulter means their will be no British players in a grand slam singles second round since the 2020 French Open in a new low for British Tennis.
First round exits for Andy Murray, Jack Draper, Cam Norrie and Harriet Dart added Dan Evans and Katie Boutler to that list as the pair lost their matches on day three of Roland Garros.
Dan Evans sixth first round French Open exit in seven years saw him lose to 11th seed Holger Rune in three sets.
Winning his first four service games in the first set, Dan was finally broken in the 5th as Rune broke the Brit to win the first set.
The second set was a similar story as Rune won the set with one brake of serve. The third was more of a contest with Dan finally breaking Rune's serve only for the Dane to break back twice late on in the set to take the match.
Katie Boulter, arguably the Brits best hopes of French Open success this year narrowly lost in three sets despite winning the first set after braking twice after being broken herself to win the first set.
Her opponent Spain's Paula Badosa started the second set horribly being broken in the first game of the set. The match was then in the Brits hands until Badosa broke Boulter in her fourth service game, Badosa broke again in the final game of the set to take the match to a decider.
Both players broke in the first two games of the set. Both holding serve for the next seven service games after. Badosa took the breakthrough stopping the set from going to a tiebreak breaking the Brits serve in what was the final game of the match.
All British hopes in this years tournament will now be on the doubles as Joe Salisbury looks to regain the men's doubles number one and win his seventh doubles grand slam and Neal Skupski tries to win a third mixed doubles title.
