Maguire commented on the ‘amazing person’ Sir Bobby Charlton after the announcement before the match of his sad passing.

“It is a really sad day. For us boys, sat in the hotel and hearing the news, it really hit us hard.

“To win what he’s won, and to be the way he is – it’s one thing to be an amazing footballer, but to be an amazing person and that’s what Sir Bobby was.”

Despite the news United managed to battle to a 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

They took the lead through McTominay scuffed effort before he gave away a penalty after tripping McAtee in the box. The penalty being dispatched by McBurnie.

The second half saw United push for a second seeing Rashford shoot just wide and Amrabat smash an effort onto the bar.

The winner eventually did come but through an unlikely source as Dalot hit a spectacular striker into the top right.

United’s manager Erik ten Hag criticised his side's performance despite the win on not being more composed and mature to control the game at 1-0.

“We have to be more composed and more mature to stay in the game at 1-0 up and not give a goal away so quickly.

“I said to them at half time: find a way to win. After half time our game was much better.”
