Local Tennis club wins promotion following Men’s doubles winter league triumph

A local tennis club from the West Midlands have secured promotion to Division One of the Hereford and Worcester County Men’s doubles league after winning the Division Two title.
Halesowen Tennis club in the black country acquired the Men’s A teams doubles title after a withdrawal from their final opponents of the winter season Hereford Whitecross’s A team, with the latter facing relegation to Division Three.
The club won promotion with a total of 48 points, seven points ahead of second place Stourport’s A team after achieving 70% sets won percentage and 60% games won percentage over the season.
Christopher Davis, the team’s captain congratulated his six teammates success on Facebook and in helping contribute to the team’s glory.
The teams’ participants included: Geoff Barrie, David Bearley, Ed Dando, Sean Randle, George Richards, Tom Welsh, and Chris himself. Chris and David getting acclaim for winning the most matches during the season and sets.
The clubs most successful triumph was an 8-0 thumping of Wall Heath’s A team which saw them win all the sets and 48 of the 64 games that were played with none of the four rubbers going to a tiebreak.
The men being joined by the clubs Ladies A team who won the Division Three East league title after finishing on the same number of points as Bewdley Ladies A team but finishing ahead on head-to-head.
The Men’s next task is to push for similar success in the summer league season which starts in mid-April and will continue their winter league success in Division One in October this year.
